FULL CIRCLE THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT

Little Cog and ARC Stockton are thrilled to make a special announcement about Full Circle Theatre Company. This extraordinary learning disability theatre company, based in Stockton-on-Tees, have been granted an Arts Council England award to create a brand new project in Teesside and across the North East. Their work is unique and making a real difference to how learning disabled are perceived.
After a hugely successful first year as an independent theatre company, after nine years within day services, during which the company secured initial funding from Arts Council to develop a brand new theatre show - In The Middle Of Our Street - and to create a training academy for new talent. To top all that, they won the Catalyst Community Arts and Culture Award for 2018 and performed in the Come On Down learning disability theatre festival run by Headway Arts in Blyth, Northumberland. You can also read a fantastic review of their work here on Disability Arts Online.
Independence has brought a new energy to the company and increased aspirations for their work. In the Middle of Our Street was a fantastic show which followed a journey to independence, looking at friendship, adulthood, politics and being respected and listened to.
The latest award from Arts Council will enable the company to mentor the academy participants directly in the further development of this wonderful production. Company members really want to take their work further than Stockton, and have said for the last 3 years that they would love to tour. Little Cog have secured two new partner venues to work with in Tyne and Wear at Arts Centre Washington, and in Northumberland, to work with on a monthly basis culminating in performances in January and February 2020.
We are developing our own Learning Disability Equality Training to be delivered to over sixty arts practitioners and cultural managers from the North East. We will also be delivering unique particpatory and audience development workshops in the new partner venues, and getting to know local people in those areas. We're keen to connect with other learning disabled artists in the North East.
Vici Wreford-Sinnott, Artistic Director from Little Cog said, "We are thrilled with this prestigious award from Arts Council England. It is a real acknowledgement of the skill, talent and hard work of this amazing theatre company and their unique aesthetic. Our learning disability theatre practice is an important strand of our overall disability theatre work. We are committed to work which puts all disabled people centre stage to tell their stories in the way that they want to. We can't wait to get cracking on the new project."
