Casting Call
We are seeking a North East based, experienced female actor with playing age 45-50 years to play Parent in a hard-hitting new play featuring four characters at a disability rally exploring the impact of austerity. Parent is the parent of a disabled young person, and the other three characters are Ex-Soldier, Professional and Lost Youth. The actor playing Parent, also shares the role of Miss Maple – a democracy super sleuth who regularly reflects on the action of the piece, and also play a game show contestant.
The performance draws on real life stories communicating the brutal rawness of our times. A full production on ARC’s main theatre stage, it is not without humour, and has a new musical score composed especially for the piece. As the stories are shared, it becomes obvious that although the silent disabled people bear the brunt of the cuts, the impacts are much wider reaching for us all.
In addition to the four professional actors, a community cast will perform alongside them, providing a chorus of movement motifs throughout the piece.
Rehearsals 3-26 September 2018, public performance 26 September @ARC Stockton
Freelance Fee - £2250 (18 days at £125 per day including per diems. Only completed days are paid).
Audition Date: A group audition will be held on June at ARC Stockton on 3 July, involving some physical, movement and chorus group work, followed by individual readings which will be sent to you in advance.
Application Deadline: Send CV, 2 referees, headshot and covering email detailing your experience of acting and any experience of disability you have, to Vici Wreford-Sinnott at [email protected] by noon on 21 June 2018. Do send the information in a format which best suits your access requirements. Please include any audition access requirements you have. We are unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates.
